After-workout Pages Redesign

I redesigned the entire after-workout pages, allowing users to easily and securely share their activity posts, media files, and session feedback with others, with a focus on privacy control communication.πŸ’Ž

Agit is a Portuguese fitness app that uses AI to track your workouts in real time and provides you with recorded videos and images of your workout at the end.

AGIT

Context

πŸ“‹ Overview

Agit's primary user base is physical education (PE) teachers and students. Teachers typically create groups on Agit to add workout sessions, allowing students to exercise remotely through the app. At the end of a workout, students can view their recorded media files (videos/images) and share one with others. Also we want to add a section that students can write feedback for their teacher about the session.

However, the current version of the app lacks clear communication about the privacy controls for the three contents (post, media, feedback), and the layout and visual elements of the app are not very appealing to users.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» My Role

As the sole designer on the team, I was responsible for identifying problems with the current flows, creating new flows, layouts, features, and visual elements, and prototyping them for end users. I worked with the product manager (PM) to prioritize features and remove confusing context. I created new UI components and communicated with developers to ensure feasibility and integration.

⚑The challenge

How can I redesign after-workout pages to encourage users to share their activity posts, media files, and feedback without confusing them about privacy controls?

Define

πŸ” Current Flow Analysis & Problems

I worked closely with team members to identify problems with the current user flows based on user test results, including their pain points and needs. We then prioritized the features that they needed most

No privacy control content for media files: This can make users think that their files are shared publicly, making them feel unsafe and vulnerable.

No session feedback contents: This is a very important feature for PE teachers, as it allows them to know how users feel about the session.

Unusual privacy setting placement for an activity post: Placing a privacy setting at the bottom can confuse users about what it is for.

Lack of consistency in layouts and UI elements: The pages look unorganized and untidy, which can confuse users.

Restructure

1️⃣ Layouts

Split the 3 contents (Post, Media, Feedback) into separate pages and place the privacy settings on each page.

We found that placing 3 different contents and their corresponding privacy controls on one page can be overwhelming and confusing for users. To address this issue, we redesigned 3 different pages with its own privacy controls placed on each pages. This allows users to easily and intuitively set the privacy settings for each content.

2️⃣ New Features

Add a preview button and a collapsible button to hide a preview media file.

To avoid confusion from the 3 different privacy controls, we added a Preview button so that users can view their post before they save their post. This will give them a chance to double-check if there is any unwanted content included and feel more secure.

For media files, which can be very private for users, we let users hide their preview media files using a collapsible button on the Save activity page. This gives users an option to enhance their privacy from media files.

3️⃣ Enhance Privacy Controls

Display group admin and group Information

To help users feel certain and safe about who will see their content, we display the group admin and group's profile photo and name when they choose their privacy controls.

🀝 Easy-to-use after workout pages with clear privacy controls

We released the most urgent and important new features, including the post privacy setting and the media card, which accounts for 30% of the new design. We will release the remaining new features soon to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments before releasing the full new design.

Outcome

Takeaways

Redesigning the after-workout pages was an amazing design experience for me, as they are crucial and complex, with many contents, buttons, and settings. I learned so much, including how to simplify the process by splitting the contents and displaying them with clear information, and how to find and combine duplicate content. I always tried to communicate well with the developer before I visualized designs to ensure feasibility and identify any restrictions.

Our next steps are to add new features that allow users to share their media files with their friends and coaches, and to send messages to them within the app. To do this, we need to add a messaging feature to the app first.
